The mission of Calvert Plumbing & Heating Co., Inc. and its employees is to install, service, repair and otherwise maintain the plumbing, heating and air conditioning systems of our customers, combining the highest level of workmanship with the best materials and products available; to give our customers value for their dollar, and to do so in the most responsive manner possible.
HISTORY
On November 1, 1986, John C. and Geralynn D. Smyth founded Calvert Plumbing & Heating Co., Inc. in the basement of their home at 1649 Aberdeen Road in Towson, Maryland. The company's primary business at that time was the installation of plumbing and gas piping systems in new commercial buildings and tenant improvements, with an eye on slowly but surely increasing commercial and residential plumbing service work.
Within three months, Calvert had outgrown its first home and moved into rented space at 3929 Falls Road, in the Hampden area of Baltimore City. Operating the company out of a single room in a building shared with a pest control company and a rug cleaning company offered unique challenges. Despite its cramped quarters, Calvert continued to grow into a company of approximately 20 employees. This rapid growth again forced Calvert to search for a new home.
In March, 1988 Calvert moved into a former auto repair shop at 5806 York Road in the Govans area of Baltimore, remodeling the building into offices and warehouse space. The company continued to grow until the recession began to take its toll in 1990. Throughout the recession, Calvert adjusted its mix of business to weather the adverse business climate. However, through hard work and the dedication of many people, Calvert was able to withstand this devastating economy and remain a respected and viable operation.
In March, 1994 Calvert set on the road to expansion again by becoming a full-service mechanical contractor, adding the installation and service of commercial heating and air conditioning systems to its stable of plumbing services. The opportunity for growth was driven by recognizing the needs and desires of its customers. Calvert adapted to those needs through its long-standing philosophy of service to the customer. The resulting growth in the company forced Calvert to triple the size of its home on York Road in 1997 with the addition of a 4,000 square foot, 2-story addition.
In the year 2000, Calvert received local and national recognition by being selected by INC. Magazine as one of the 100 fastest growing private companies in America's cities. However, the growth of Calvert has not adversely affected the quality of its product. Calvert has been honored for its work on many occasions, most notably by the Associated Builders and Contractors, Baltimore Metro Chapter for its plumbing and HVAC work on the major expansion to the Greenspring Dairy in Baltimore City. Calvert has also been honored by several of our General Contractor clients for our successful collaboration in several ABC award-winning projects.
Again, in November of 2006 Calvert recognized the need to
grow and expand our abilities to better serve the needs of our clients. With
the goal of becoming a one-stop, full-service company, Calvert introduced
electrical service capabilities. This move was a direct result of repeated
requests by our customer base to provide the same kind of outstanding
service and response that was being given in the Plumbing and HVAC areas.
Electrical service has quickly become an integral part of our service
offering.
Calvert has and will continue to offer its employees and its customers a strong and progressive company which provides a quality product with superior customer service. Calvert believes in the safe performance of its work and is committed to the continued training and education of its employees. Calvert believes in standing behind its work and works hard to maintain the integrity of its reputation. While our company may change with time, our beliefs will not.
